India’s new social media guidelines

It is really surprising that the news was not a buzz around the corner of the world but this is really a serious issue for Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and other noteworthy giants. They have to comply with India’s new social media guidelines.

This new act is a unique step from the Indian government that compels all the social media giants to comply with the new laws.

If there’s any criminal activity on any social media platform in India, where would people go especially if it is related to the government?
This is the real reason behind the new government policy on all social media giants.

There was a fixed 3 months of time till 26th May given by the government but it seems there’s still no step from those firms.

India’s New Social Media Guidelines
According to the government’s policy, every social media firm had to comply with the rules and regulations of the Indian government which was announced on 25th February.

Otherwise, there might be some legal steps from the government. It might cause the forfeiting of those platforms by the government. They had three months but to date, there is no response from their sides

The new guideline says if someone is unhappy or feels threatened by the content, she/he can take the opposite person to the court. A post can promote terrorism, injure the dignity of a woman, and suppress the freedom of expression.

So far, no firms have taken any initiative for this. They want more than 3 months of time to follow the new rule. Facebook said that there has to be more discussion on this. There is still no response from the government’s side.

We aim to comply with the provisions of the IT rules and continue to discuss a few of the issues which need more engagement with the government.

It’s time to see the next step from the government against this. Is this going to be a big concerning matter for users or the government will give more time to the social media giants?

It is expected that the users’ data will be in safe mode, not in any compromising situation.
